Summer School 2009 

Microsoft Research, the Moscow State University and the Program Systems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences are pleased to announce their first jointly organized Russian Summer School for High Performance and Parallel computing for computational science and engineering.

The Summer School will take place at Lomonosov Moscow State University, in the faculty of computational mathematics and cybernetics (CMC19th-25th of July.

Main goal of the first joint Moscow State University and Microsoft Research computing school in Russia is to offer to the best students from the leading universities in the country a unique opportunity to learn about the latest developments in computing on the subjects of the school.

Top scientists from Russia and abroad will teach a one week intensive course with formal lectures in the morning and practical exercises in the afternoon. An exam will take place at the end of the weekand certificates issued to all.

It won't all be study time, social events will also be organised, among them, an afternoon visit of the major historical sites in Moscow and a final dinner cruise on the river.

The scientific programme of the school is put together by an international programme committee chaired by: Prof. Lev Korolyov (Moscow State University), Dr. Burton Smith (Microsoft Corporation) and Prof. Sergei Abramov (Program Systems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences).


Moscow State University was established in 1755.

More than 40 000 undergraduates and about 7 000 postgraduates study at the university, and over 5 000 specialists do the refresher course here. More than 4 000 professors and lecturers, and about 5 000 researchers work for the faculties and research institutes. The University employs over 15 000 of ancillary staff.

Every year Moscow University enrolls about 2 000 international students and postgraduates from all over the world.

Moscow University has at its disposal more than 600 buildings and facilities including the sky-scraper on Lenin Hills, occupying over 1 million square metres. The University campus in Moscow covers 205.7 hectares.         


Summer is a very nice season to visit Moscow. It gets pretty warm during summer season. In Moscow, for example, it is not surprising to have summer temperature about 30C (86F).

There are a lot of parks in Moscow. In July they all should be covered by different flowers. Moscow is filled by historical places, museums and beautiful churches.

A shuttle service back and forth will be provided.
